Organic Farming
Michael Eavis CBE is best known for holding the famous Glastonbury Festival and is a true campaigner of EnviroBed green product. It is held at his dairy farm, Worthy Fm, Pilton in the heart of rural Somerset.
It was this aspect of EnviroBed that first attracted Mr Eavis to the product, he comments:
“The re-cycling of paper leaves a sludge which was either spread on land or sent to landfill. Taking that sludge and transforming it into a superb cubicle bedding material is truly green.”
The herd manager at Worthy Farm, John Taylor, has seen the benefits of EnviroBed with low cell counts and greatly reduced instances of mastitis. He cites ease of use and the saving of time as the greatest advantage in such a large dairy unit.
Michael has used EnviroBed for the last eight years during which time his cows have spent more time than most in cubicles, because of the demands of the Glastonbury Festival, on his fields. He says “I was quite excited about the concept of this accumulating waste from the paper industry being transformed into a product for bedding dairy cows. The most difficult thing was persuading John to have a go with it.”
EnviroBed in Organic Farming
Eric Coates is the Farm Manager at Manor Farm, Radstock Co-op near Frome. It is an organic farm with 450 cows.
“Since using Envirobed I have stopped dressing beds with lime – and my staff are delighted to be rid of this from the farm. And because of the ease of bedding up with this new product I will certainly use it in future winters!”
Roger Mapstone, Barrington Court Farm, Ilminster. Is an organic member of the AH Warren Trust Dairy Product Producers.
“I use EnviroBed for one main reason – cubicle beds remain dry and free of bugs when the alternatives of straw or sawdust would certainly heat up! I have used the product for three years with total confidence.”
Over the years EnviroSystems (UK) Ltd has been awarded recognition for its environmental impact with awards such as;
“Materials Re-Cycling Weekly”, the “Farmers Weekly” of the recycling industry gave EnviroBed™ “Best Recycled Product of the Year” (2005). The panel said “Its good lateral thinking and EnviroSystems has made exceptional progress from a standing start to where it is today. This opens up avenues for paper that seems to have reached the end of its life”.
EnviroBed was also awarded the Green Apple Award for Services to the Environment (2005) due to the recycling of waste paper sludge into economical and hygienic animal bedding.
